 What is Indigenous Herbalism?

Herbalism describes the interactive relationship between medicinal plants and humans. For Native Americans, this is a relationship into which they were always born. We know this from the creation myths that tell stories about plants coming to life alongside Indigenous peoples. Native Americans have always allied with plants in at least three ways: relationally, physically, and spiritually. The essence of their being is to be good stewards of the land, caring for the plants, animals, and even the stones. This reciprocal relationship lays the foundation for how Indigenous Peoples interact with plant remedies in what I like to call Indigenous Herbalism.

Organic Herbal Tea

Elemental Teas showcase herbs as art and pleasure. Created by Indigenous Herbalist, Angela Queen, our loose-leaf teas offer nutritional support and medicinal benefits, while beckoning you to slow down for a sacred pause.

Angela Locklear Queen, Indigenous Herbalist

As a member of the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. I’ve always had a deep ancestral connection to the southeastern landscape, building a relationship with the medicinal plants that grow here. In 2018 I started an herb garden that brought deep healing to my whole being in a way that I can’t fully explain. These factors brought on the anthesis of Elemental Herbal Teas.

Hi! I’m Angela, and I love seeing entrepreneurs bloom! Small business owners don’t have time to do it all, which is where I come in. When I’m working in the background on logistics such as product descriptions, blog writing, social media management, and even customer management, I know I am contributing to making your dreams a reality, which brings me joy.
